About the artist

I describe my painting genre as Australian contemporary and impressionistic. My main influences are by artists such as Arthur Streeton and Ken Night, although there are many artists whose work and technique inspire me. I use my painting as an opportunity to communicate my feelings and thoughts about various landscapes, people and situations. My subject matter varies from landscapes to portraits and figures. As an impressionist I paint the landscape “en plein air” as a direct emotional response to the subject in front of me. I really enjoy capturing the light and shadows in the scene as they are presented at that moment in time. When I paint portraits, I try to capture the personality, the background and the movement of the sitter and use the colours and tone to set the mood, energy and the vibrancy of the painting. I use many different media in my paintings, but I most enjoy using oil colours. I like its vibrancy and texture, that it can be used with thick or smooth pain, using a brush, palette knife or various other instruments to distribute the paint with energetic manipulation of the media to emphasise my point of interest in the subject.
